If you watched I Am Legend, you remember that Will Smith's character died at the end. Well, the new version, starring Smith and Michael B. Jordan will follow an alternate ending, according to Deadline.
The new version will follow the alternate ending found on the two-disc special edition DVD release of I Am Legend – which is the version that more closely follows the book written by Robert Matheson in 1954.
“This will start a few decades later than the first,” said producer and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. “That will be especially visual in New York…I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the Empire State building, but the possibilities are endless. We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”
The original film, released in 2007, grossed $585 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Jordan is set to reprise his role as Adonis Creed in the latest installment of that franchise, Creed III, which he also directed. It hits theaters next month, with a soundtrack executive produced by J. Cole's Dreamville.
