After last season's cliffhanger, the season 2 trailer, set to Kendrick Lamar's "N95," finds all of the main cast members at a crossroads of sorts, with Will (Jabari Banks), trying to decide who he is, and whether he'll allow past behaviors to dictate how he moves in his new Bel-Air circle.
Bel-Air, debuted last year to rave reviews, praised for its nuanced approach to relevant issues, and the acting from its cast. The original series, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, was a monster hit for NBC and launched Will Smith's acting career.
“At first, I was skeptical,” Banks said in a 2022 interview with NME about the reboot. “My friend called me like, ‘Hey, they’re doing aFresh Prince reboot, but it’s dark.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, why are they doing that?’ Then I saw Morgan’s trailer and I got it. I knew that it could work.”
Co-showrunner Rasheed Newson told PopSugar last March that the show's second season will focus on exploring the Banks family's new dynamic. “One of the things we talked about is with a sitcom, at the end of those 30 minutes, whatever problem we have is resolved,” said Newson. "[But] they lied to this boy for years. He feels like he really came here, opened up his heart to them, trusted them, and now he feels betrayed. It's going to be very hard for them to rebuild that."
The new season arrives on Feb. 23. Check out the new trailer above.
