Questlove announced today (1/31) that the 2023 Grammy's are honoring the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop in a major way. The six-time Grammy award winner is co-curating the Hip Hop 50 tribute performance for the ceremony which takes place this Sunday (2/5).

The tribute performance is part of the Paramount Global initiative to honor the culture's 50th Anniversary in partnership with Mass Appeal. The artist lineup will be announced in the coming days but Questlove said in his announcement that it will contain "some of the biggest names from the genre coming together to celebrate Hip-Hop history - its past,its present, its future."

"Hip Hop has been a driving force in the music and culture," he added. "It has had an immeasurable impact on our culture and our world. I have the great privilege of co-curating it with the Roots and the many others who will be there that night. Shout out to CBS and the Recording Academy for making this happen, and for honoring Hip-Hop with such a high-profile celebration."

It was announced earlier this month that Slick Rick is set to receive the 2023 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Bobby McFerrin, Nirvana, Ma Rainey, Nile Rodgers, The Supremes, and Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart will also receive the honor. Rick joins rap legends Run DMC, Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 who've also been honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
