Slick Rick just achieved another major milestone in his storied career. The Hip-Hop legend is set to receive the 2023 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Bobby McFerrin, Nirvana, Ma Rainey, Nile Rodgers, The Supremes, and Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart will also receive the honor.
This is another major feat in what's been a career full of milestones for the celebrated, influential rapper. Last year, The Ruler was honored at the National Hip-Hop Museum's induction ceremony. Hosted by Master Gee of The Sugar Hill Gang, ROCK THE BELLS senior writer JayQuan, and Grandmaster Caz, the 2022 ceremony also celebrated the legacies of Queens icon Kool G Rap, sophisticated rap stars Whodini, the legendary U.T.F.O., Speech of Arrested Development and super producer/rapper Diamond D.
Arguably rap's greatest storyteller, Slick Rick is one of the most interesting, charismatic artists in Hip-Hop with a string of classics that've influenced and inspired artists for decades, including his 1988 classic, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, 1991's The Ruler's Back, and 1994's Behind Bars.
Rick joins rap legends Run DMC and Public Enemy, who've also been honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
