Megan Thee Stallion made headlines earlier this year when she announced she was no longer signed to a major label. Now, a source at Warner Music Group confirmed to Billboard that the Houston rapper has signed a distribution deal with them.
The deal will allow Megan to maintain ownership of her music, however she'll rely on the major label to push future releases. According to Billboard, Meg's team will "include some staffers from 300 Entertainment as well as others across the company." Megan was previously signed to 1501 Certified Music where she released her albums Traumazine, Something For Thee Hotties, and Good News. She announced she was amicably leaving the label in October and subsequently announced her plans to remain independent.
Last month, Megan released "Cobra," her first drop as an indie. A personal song about shedding old hurts in order to embrace a new life perspective, the accompanying video, directed by Douglas Bernardt, set a new record for 2023. The video holds the record for the most views on YouTube for any female Hip-Hop video of 2023. Specifically, the video logged 2.14 million views in its first 24 hours, pushing it ahead of Doja Cat’s “Demons,” which earned 2.01 million views, and Ice Spice’s “Deli” with 1.85 million views. The track also earned 1.04 million global Spotify streams in its first 24 hours.
