Last week, Megan Thee Stallion released a new video, "Cobra," a personal song about shedding old hurts in order to embrace a new life perspective. The accompanying video, directed by Douglas Bernardt, has set a new record for 2023.

Per Hypebeast, Roc Nation confirmed on X that the video now holds the record for the most views on YouTube for any female Hip-Hop video of 2023. Specifically, the video logged 2.14 million views in its first 24 hours, pushing it ahead of Doja Cat’s “Demons,” which earned 2.01 million views, and Ice Spice’s “Deli” with 1.85 million views. The track also earned 1.04 million global Spotify streams in its first 24 hours.

The song is her first solo release on her independent music and entertainment entity Hot Girl Productions, which was founded following the settlement of her lawsuit with 1501 Certified Entertainment. The Houston rapper gets very transparent about her struggles with suicide and hurt over a cheating ex on the track.

"Just like a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past, over and over again," she says at the opening of the song. In an Instagram post, she explained cobras "exemplify courage and self-reliance."
