Kendrick Lamar Has Three Albums On The Billboard Charts This Week

According to BILLBOARD it has been more than a decade since three of an artists albums have been on the top Hip Hop/R&B albums chart in the same week. Kendrick Lamar's latest album Mr Morale And The Big Steppers enters at number 1, while his 2012 debut good kid m.A.A.d. city holds number 7 and 2017's DAMN holds tenth place.The last occurrence was Bay area rap artist E40 in April of 2012. All three of 40's installments of a trilogy project debuted that week: The Block Brochure: Welcome To The Soil 1,2 and 3 debuted at together at number 8 ,while The Soil 1, 2 and 3 debuted separately at numbers 10,9 and 13 respectively.

Lamar is the sixth act with three simultaneous top tens since the R&B chart was established in 1965. The Temptations are record holders with four concurrent albums in three different weeks in 1969. Sam Cooke had three at once in 1965 and Lou Rawls and The Supremes both achieved the feat in 1967 and 1969. Lamar released the song and video "The Heart Part 5" earlier this month to critical acclaim and his latest full length album is easily the most celebrated and discussed Hip Hop album this year.
