J Dilla's estate has partnered with Stem Player to allow fans access to rare and unreleased music from the prolific producer for a monthly fee.
Fans can listen to 20 different records from Dilla for $1.94 a month. There are 20 different tracks from the late producer, some of which are featured on Dilla's 2002 and 2003 instrumental albums,Vol. 1 and 2, while others have never been heard. An additional $30 will get you a pre-order of a cosmic spectrum green skin through Dilla’s official Stem Player page available here.
In addition to the new music partnership, The Legacy of J Dilla dropped today (April 7) on Hulu. DJ Jazzy Jeff and Dilla's mother, Ma Dukes speak about Dilla turning "sample grabbing" into an art form and how he kept his illness private. The documentary, presented by The New York Times, is described as “an intimate portrait” of the acclaimed producer, who passed away in 2006, and chronicles his rise to fame, and the subsequent fight for control over his legacy. It also features exclusive access to Dilla's family.
