The Microphone Wizard DLB, frontman of first-generation rap group The Fearless 4, has returned to his Harlem middle school, PS43 (now known as PS286/The Urban Assembly Academy For Future Leaders), as an educator.

DLB, born Darryll L. Barksdale, calls his present position of assistant principal at his former school "a full circle moment." In an interview with PIX 11 News, he explains how Hip-Hop has always had the potential to serve as an educational tool.

"The first rap that I ever wrote was about everything I had just learned in Mr. Fitts's science class," he explained. "It was cool and it was alright to be cool and be smart."

DLB recently assembled Grandmaster Caz, Kool DJ Red Alert and Doug E. Fresh for a presentation to his students about Hip-Hop's history at New York's Shabazz Center.

I want the kids to know that all we want to do is inspire them. We want them to be the best, and we share stories of what we went through as tools for them to make better decisions.

The Fearless 4 are one of Harlem's premiere rap groups, releasing classic recordings such as "Rockin It" and "It's Magic" on Bobby Robinson's Enjoy Records. The group later made rap history when they signed to Elektra Records in 1983 and became the first rap group signed to a major label. The group released "Problems Of The World," "F-4000," "Just Rock" and "Got To Turn Out" on Elektra, and later released "Dedication" and "After Tonight" on Tuff City and Mercury Records respectively.

In 1994, the group released their first full-length album Creepin' Up On Ya on DJ Easy Lee's Easy Lee Records. The Fearless 4 remains one of the most celebrated first-generation rap groups.
