New Jersey Rapper AK Accuses Kendrick Lamar's "The Heart, Pt 5" Of Copying His Video

On Sunday (May 8) Kendrick Lamar dropped the song and video “The Heart Part 5” from his upcoming album Mr. Morale & The Big Stepper. While the song and video have already received critical acclaim online, New Jersey rap artist AK isn’t too happy. AK posted a video comparison to social media claiming that he's been copied by Kendrick.

“Kendrick Lamar’s new music video is an exact copy of my video from 2020 for my song ‘Family Tree,'" he wrote. "Maybe I’m full of myself for thinking that Kendrick saw my video and said ‘Damn that’s so good I wanna do it myself.' I was under Universal (records) and he’s under Universal. Obviously mine didn’t do as well as if Kendrick did it, but it’s the same thing.”

Kendrick's video for "The Heart Part 5" has been compared to classic videos, with many stating the visual serves as a sort of mashup between D'Angelo's "How Does It Feel?" and Michael Jackson's "Black or White." Over a loop of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" Kendrick morphs into OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle via deepfake technology. AK's black & white video for "Family Tree" also utilizes deepfake technology, and AK morphs into Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Jay -Z and, coincidentally, Kendrick Lamar.

AK ends his social media video with the words: "As an independent artist this is the type of shit you have to eat. My whole message is keep goin'. You have to eat shit sometimes, but eventually you'll be alright."
