Trina to Hold Free Event 'Welcome to Sugaland' to Raise Awareness About Gun Violence

Trina is set to host “The Welcome to Suga Land,” a free Trina Day event to raise awareness about the effects of gun violence, on Saturday, in Miami, Local 10 reports.

Trina is hosting the event in remembrance of her 17-year-old niece, Toni Chester, affectionately known as "Baby Suga," who lost her life in a shooting incident about ten months ago in Liberty City. The event is hosted by Trina's Diamond Doll Foundation along with the City of Miami, and is free and open to the public.

Earlier this year, Trina delivered an energetic performance on NPR's Tiny Desk. In an interview with Rock The Bells, Trina explained how consistency has led to her success throughout the decades.

"Consistency is the key to everything," she said. "You've got to stay consistent, you've got to stay focused, you've got to stay determined. It's not always peaches and cream, it's not always glitz and glam. Between some of that is smoke and mirrors. So I feel like [it's about] the consistency, and staying focused. Smash your foot on the gas and go after what you want. Don't let nobody get in the way of or stop that. And get away from distractions. Sometimes it's kind of hard to stay focused in the game. Every record may not hit, but consistency is always gonna win."
