The D.O.C. On Using AI to Release New Music: 'It Sounds Like A Real Me'

Legendary MC The D.O.C. was a guest on CBS Mornings where he talked about his life changing car accident, and the prospect of making new music with the aid of artificial intelligence.

"Fab 5 Freddy asked me would I be interested in creating an album using AI technology," he revealed.

Hip-Hop legend and former Yo! MTV Raps host Fab 5 Freddy says that the combination of AI and The D.O.C. is perfect. "I just felt like it was a no brainer for somebody like him to have an opportunity to bring new music to the world," he shared.

Freddy connected D.O.C. with Mikey Scholman, the CEO of AI company Sunno who says that his firm is "teaching the machine what D.O.C. used to sound like."

D.O.C. notes that its very convincing when Sunno matches his new vocals with the voice from his previous recordings. "When this thing happens it sounds like a real me," he reveals.

Scholman notes that there are some possible ethical issues here, but that the combination is a slam dunk. "Letting D.O.C. recreate the voice that has been in his head that he hasn't been able to get out there for the last 35 years - I can't think of a better usage of this technology than that."
