Sprite has launched a campaign honoring Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary which includes a new limited edition flavor — Lymonade Legacy.

The campaign also includes a just released commercial, Icons Delight, which features three generations of Hip-Hop artists, with Nas, Rakim, Latto, and GloRilla remaking rap's first commercially successful recording, 1979's Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang.

The commercial features graffiti writers, GloRilla performing on stage, Latto in the recording studio, Rakim teaching in a classroom and Nas sitting on a stoop drinking a Sprite.

“Our resume speaks for itself,” said A.P. Chaney, creative director for Sprite North America. “Sprite took a chance on hip-hop before it was cool, and has always been of the culture, not only for the culture."

Sprite was indeed one of the earliest brands to use Hip-Hop in its marketing when they released a series of commercials featuring rap icon Kurtis Blow in their "Now More Than Ever" campaign. Sprite later released ads featuring Heavy D, Kid-N-Play, Kris Kross, A Tribe Called Quest, Grand Puba, Large Professor and Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

Sprite's choice of featuring authentic artists resonated with Hip-Hop fans, and later ads featuring KRS-One vs MC Shan, Afrika Bambaataa, Common and Fat Joe showed their commitment to authenticity. A series of commercials paying homage to Hip-Hop's first movie Wild Style included Crazy Legs, Grandmaster Flash, The Cold Crush Brothers, Nas, AZ, Missy Elliot, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant.
