On this week's episode of Salute the Sample, ROCK THE BELLS' exclusive series where LL COOL J, Greg Nice, and DJ Z-Trip breakdown the origin of some of Hip-Hop’s most beloved samples, the trio looks at the Parliament's 1976 hit, "Do That Stuff" and The Whispers' 1977 song, "You Are Number One" for one of Z-Trip's much-loved sample trains.
"When I first heard this, I was higher than a kite," Greg admits as the Parliament track swells in the background.
Z-Trip and crew follow the sample train to Greg Nice's group, Nice & Smooth's 1989 track "Funky For You" to the 2009 track of the same name, produced by 9th Wonder. They follow the sample train track to The Whisper's 1977 song, "You Are Number One," to singer Monica's 2003 hit, "So Gone" produced by Missy Elliott.
