A trailer dropped for the new upcoming Barbie movie, and its impending arrival prompted singer/songwriter/producer Missy Elliott to reminisce on exactly how ahead of her time she's always been.

She went on social media Wednesday (April 5) and remembered the backlash she faced for her "Beep Me 911" video, which debuted 26 years ago, and was featured on her album, Supa Dupa Fly. In the colorful, creative video, Missy, Timbaland, Magoo and 702 are dressed like Barbies, bringing the song's staccato production to life with their movements.

“They say a Barbie movie coming out well Let me bring this back 1 time!” she wrote. “BeepMe911. This 26 YEARS AGO with 702!"

The superstar producer says she remembers crying because of the criticism she received for the video back then.

"Back then some folks clowned me @timbaland & Magoo for doing a Barbie style video with our arms painted like joints and tim and magoo Ken hair styles. I remember crying but I realized I was just years ahead of the game #757 VA.”

Thankfully, time has opened people's eyes to just how advanced and futuristic Missy's creative vision and sound has always been. Earlier this year, it was announced that Missy Elliott was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a historic nomination because she's the first female rapper ever to achieve the feat.
