Nicki Minaj Thanks Missy Elliott for Her "Iconic Artistry"

Nicki Minaj is set to receive the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, and ahead of her award and performance, she thanked Missy Elliott.

Missy, who was honored with the award in 2019, becoming the first female rapper to be recognized, posted her congrats to Nicki on Twitter: “Congratulations to @NICKIMINAJ on the this achievement!”

Nicki responded, saying Missy paved the way.

"You kicked down this [door]," she wrote in response. "Nothing but Love & Respect for your iconic artistry."

Nicki has previously received 17 VMA nominations and won five awards. This year, she's nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video for “Do We Have A Problem” featuring Lil Baby. The rap star, who will release a new single, “Super Freaky Girl” on Aug. 12, is also set to perform at the award show this year, and she said it's a performance fans don't want to miss. The VMAs will air Aug. 28 on MTV.
