Nas was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and recalled one of the Hip-Hop verses that impacted him the most, MC Shan's 1986 classic "The Bridge."
"It was a Hip-Hop anthem," he said of the track, which was produced by Marley Marl, before reciting a few bars from the last verse.
"Dead dreams, bought and sold/You gotta try and receive your goal/However you do it however you may/Don't ever listen to what nobody say/'Cause I will tell you the deal/You gotta go by what your heart feel/'Cause if you don't you'll be misled/By stupid little things put inside your head"
"It's so true," Nas said. "That verse when I heard it, it was like gospel. This is what I have to be aware of."
Nas was on the show promoting his one-night-only performance taking place at Madison Square Garden this weekend. Watch his interview below.
