Missy Elliott made history today, becoming the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and she shared her excitement and gratitude on Twitter.

Namely, she expressed her love for her "sisters in Hip-Hop" who've contributed to the culture and genre.

"I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP this door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work & what many of us contribute to MUSIC," she wrote on Twitter. "I have cried all morning because I am GRATEFUL."

This is the first year Missy has been eligible for nomination —her landmark debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, dropped in 1997, which means she means she met the 25-year criteria. Joining Missy in the 2023 induction class are Kate Bush, George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and the Spinners.

Additionally, and just in time for Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary, DJ Kool Herc will be honored with the Musical Influence Award, as will guitarist Link Wray. Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Elton John’s songwriter Bernie Taupin will all receiving the Musical Excellence Award. Soul Train creator, the late Don Cornelius will be honored with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
