Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson received a congratulations of a lifetime when the former First Lady of The United States, Michelle Obama, gave him his props for his Best Documentary Oscar win for Summer Of Soul on Sunday.

She tweeted: “Congratulations, @Questlove and the team@SummerOfSoul, for your #Oscar win! Barack and I were so moved by this celebration of Black music, culture and joy. What you did in telling this overlooked story is so important – and we are grateful for artists like you leading the way!” Questlove responded with a big “(((HUG)))”.

Comprised primarily of “lost” footage of the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, Summer Of Soul chronicles the forgotten concert with performances from Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Mahalia Jackson, and more. This Academy Award was the first for Thompson, who is also working on a James Brown documentary with Mick Jagger, and a documentary on Sly Stone. Questlove is also working with his Roots bandmate Black Thought on a Disney animated series.
