There's been a lot of buzz about Killer Mike's first solo album in 10 years, Michael. The album dropped back in June, and since then has received praise for his insightful observations about addiction, morality tales, and his general perspective about Black life in America. Now that the Grammys are around the corner, the buzz has picked up about who will win for Best Rap Album.
On the most recent episode of his Brilliant Idiots podcast, longtime Killer Mike fan Charlamagne Tha God argues that Mike should walk away with the top prize.
“I know Killer Mike is gonna win Rap Album of the Year,” Charlamagne said. “Grammy, Recording Academy: if Killer Mike does not win Rap Album of the Year, something is wrong. If he does not win Rap Album of the Year for Michael, something is wrong. He definitely should win something for [Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance nominee] ‘Scientists & Engineers,’ but there’s no better rap album than Killer Mike all year long.”
Mike is up against Drake and 21 Savage's Her Loss, Metro Boomin's Heroes & Villains, Travis Scott's UTOPIA, and Nas' King's Disease III. To Charlamagne's point, Michael should come out on top, though King's Disease III stands tall as another notch in Nas and Hit-Boy's fantastic run of collab albums.
