In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, The Brooklyn Public Library and Jay-Z's Roc Nation have released 13 limited edition library cards bearing artwork from Jay's albums.

A spokesperson for the library says that the initiative has already resulted in 14,000 new library accounts. The commemorative cards are tied to The Book of Hov, an exhibit which explores Jay-Z's career through videos, recordings, photographs and other artifacts.

“The community’s enthusiastic response to this exhibition is a testament to Jay-Z’s immense impact,” Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Public Library, told CNN.

The limited edition cards are free to residents of New York State, and they are able to collect all 13, but only one can be activated to a Brooklyn Public Library account to check out resources according to a library spokesperson.

The Brooklyn Public Library follows the Queens Public Library who released a cassette tape case styled card based on Wild Style, Hip-Hop's first movie. Queens residents can also receive a special edition Hip-Hop Queens library card with art created by the legendary Shirt Kings who created custom graffiti styled clothing that was worn by some of the late 80's biggest Hip-Hop icons. The special edition Queens library cards will were released in July.

New York residents can apply for the card online free of charge, and retrieve their cards at any New York Public Library Branch throughout Manhattan and The Bronx. Library card applications can be processed in person as well.
