Zany group Gorillaz have linked with acclaimed bassist Thundercat for a new track, "Cracker Island," produced by the group along with Greg Kurstin and Remi Kabaka Jr.

Stamped by Thundercat's whimsy vocals and bass, the dance-friendly track taps into a theme of paranoia while managing to keep things groovy, as 2-D (Damon Albarn) sings about “planting seeds at night to grow a made-up paradise.” The group has been playing the song live since they started touring Europe this spring. Back in May, Gorillaz announced details of the North American leg of the tour, which kicks off in September. The band will be joined by Earthgang and Jungle on some dates.

Lately, the band has been asking its diehard fans to join "The Last Cult" of which the band's cartoonist/bassist Murdoc Niccals is the "self-appointed leader," per a press release.

"It’s nice to be back, I’m well into our new tune, it brings back weird and scary memories of stuff that hasn’t happened yet,” singer 2-D said in a statement.

The band's most recent release was 2020's Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez. For his part, Thundercat's last album, the Grammy-winning It Is What It Is, was also released in 2020, and he's also on tour in Europe currently.
