Lakeyta Bonnette-Bailey, associate professor of Africana Studies at GSU said, “I love Hip-Hop, and as a professor studying Hip-Hop in a school that is located in what is now called the ‘Hip-Hop Mecca,’ it was important to be a part of this very important endeavor preserving Atlanta Hip-Hop. As Hip-Hop celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is important to maintain, reflect, and preserve the history of this influential and global genre. This is especially important because of the historical exclusion of Black history and cultural artifacts.”
According to its website, "the university is reaching out to the community, encouraging individuals, Hip-Hop artists, and enthusiasts to contribute. Donations of materials related to Atlanta Hip-Hop, including those from artists, producers, DJs, fans, venues, events, recording studios, and the community, are welcomed."
