Eric B & Rakim's "Follow The Leader" was featured in the first episode (Smells Like Mean Spirit) of season 3 of Apple TV's Ted Lasso.

The song comes in about 11 minutes into the episode, and various pieces of the song are played for just over one minute. In the episode, the newly promoted AFC Richmond face mockery as pundits predict that they will finish dead last this season. Ted Lasso is an American comedy that follows an American Football coach who is hired to coach and English soccer team, knowing that his lack of experience will lead the team to failure. Ironically his leadership turns out to be unexpectedly successful. Season 3 also features music from Beyoncé and Bob Dylan.

"Follow The Leader" is the lead single from 1988's album of the same name. The video for "Follow The Leader" was the first ever video to be broadcasted on Yo! MTV Raps. "Follow The Leader" is widely celebrated as one of Rakim's best songs, as the album is celebrated as one of his best pieces of work as well.

"Follow The Leader" used interpolations of "Nautilus," a popular breakbeat in Hip-Hop composed by Bob James. Rakim played the Blue Note in New York in February with Talib Kweli, Black Thought and Bob James. Slick Rick and DMC played the venue with James on the same weekend.
