Eminem and Snoop Dogg are set to perform at the MTV VMA's this year, in what's being dubbed a "first-of-its-kind" performance. The pair will perform their recent summertime collaboration "From the D 2 The LBC,” inspired by the world of the Otherside metaverse. MTV partnered with Yuga Labs to bring the performance to life.
Otherside is a gamified, interoperable metaverse game featuring web3-enabled virtual worlds and Yuga Labs is a blockchain technology company that develops NFTs, digital collectibles, and more. Both rappers have taken a deep dive into the NFT and Metaverse spaces, with Snoop Dogg leading the way, and encouraging Em to join him in his Metaverse endeavors. Earlier this year, Snoop even announced plans to turn his recently acquired Death Row Records into an “NFT label.”
“I know [NFTs] have a great opportunity to be big in music because sooner or later the labels are going to have to come on in,” Snoop told CNBC while at the NFT.NYC conference in New York City earlier this year. “They’re going to have to come on home and sit at the table and understand that catalogs and things they hold onto are better served on the blockchain than sitting in the catalog collecting cobwebs.”
"From the D 2 the LBC," which is featured on Eminem’s second greatest-hits album, Curtain Call 2, is up for Best Hip Hop at this year's awards. The 2022 VMAs air Iive on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. ET. Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J and Jack Harlow will “anchor” the show.
