Dr. Dre has funded a 1,102 square foot mural at Compton Unified School District's new Arts Center. The installation was designed by DLR Group Architects and took nearly a month to complete. The Arts Center is described as "A model for celebrity philanthropy in education."

The mural utilized over 40 gallons of specialized exterior paint, and took five artists to complete. The Andre Young Performing Arts Center has a 900 seat auditorium, rehearsal spaces and a full music studio.

Dr. Dre and Compton Unified leaders celebrated the completion of Compton High's rebuild on 5/22. The $225 million campus houses a half-size Olympic pool, tennis courts, the above mentioned performing arts center, and classrooms where over 2000 students who will attend the high school in August will learn engineering, video game design and earn college credit.

Dre, who was once a student in the district before transferring to a South L.A. school spoke of grit merged with education at the ribbon cutting ceremony. "It's a certain kind of grit that gets cultivated navigating these streets, and that grit carried me farther than I could ever imagine,” he reflected. “But I'm also excited to see the kind of talent that emerges when grit is paired with a first rate-education."
