Among the many Hip-Hop legends backstage at the 2023 Rock The Bells Festival was Ruff Ryders co-founder, Darrin Dee Dean, who was there to support his nephew Swizz Beatz as well as one of the game’s fastest rising stars, Scar Lip, who performed during the “Swizz Beatz and Friends” set.
When talking about Scar Lip, Dean compared the “No Statements” MC to another rapper whose career he saw take off more than 25 years ago.
“When I see her perform, she remind me of X a bit,” Dean told Rock The Bells. “The energy is the same. Her and X got the same energy, so I know she gonna be alright.”
On the subject of the late great DMX, The Ruff Ryder General dropped some news that’s sure to have fans of the “Who We Be” MC excited.
“I got some music that we didn’t put out on the Dog yet,” Dean revealed. "[We gotta] keep his legacy going. We gotta put out some new music. We recorded some music before he passed away so we still got that. No specific timeline on it right now but we’ll put out another album.”
Dean also revealed that a familiar face would be involved in the project.
“Swizz Beatz did some music on there too. We always got the family on deck.”
