2Pac to Receive Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Tupac Shakur is finally set to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On June 7, Tupac's star ceremony will take place on Hollywood Boulevard, where he will be honored with the 2,758th spot on the renowned walk. The star will be presented by the West Coast radio icon, Big Boy, along with Tupac's sister, Sekyiwa "Set" Shakur. The ceremony comes just nine days before what would've been his 52nd birthday, on June 16.

In addition to receiving a star on the Walk of Fame, the actor/Hip-Hop legend who also had deep roots in Oakland, including his work with legendary Hip-Hop group Digital Underground and rap legend Ray Love, will have a street named in his honor.

Per OaklandSide, will rename one of its most prominent streets after 2Pac — the section of MacArthur Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue will now be known as "Tupac Shakur Way."

2Pac's life and impact was most recently explored in the poignant docuseries, Dear Mama. The Allen Hughes-directed series made history, becoming the most-watched premiere episode for an unscripted series in FX’s history. Dear Mama premiered on FX before becoming available to stream on Hulu, and the combined numbers account for the record-breaking performance. The first two episodes of the docuseries premiered on April 21.

“It’s only fitting that Allen Hughes definitive piece on Tupac and Afeni Shakur delivered a record performance for us and it speaks to Tupac’s enduring legacy,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement.  “Allen’s examination of Tupac viewed through the prism of his mother Afeni is a fascinating take that really gets beneath the education and experience that shaped his life and inspired him to become one of the greatest artists ever.”

In an interview with Roxanne Shanté for Rock The Bells radio, Hughes detailed why it was so important for him to make the film, saying he was driven by a need to understand the enigmatic rapper/actor.

"I wanted to understand him and I didn't understand him even though I knew him and I worked with him."

2Pac is the most recent Hip-Hop legend to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ludacris, Ice-T, and Salt-N-Pepa were also recently honored with stars.
