Raised in South Central L.A., Battlecat (born Kevin Gilliam) honed his craft alongside DJ Bobcat, eventually forming the DJ collective California Catt Crew, which also included Dr. Scratch Kat, Wild Cat, Cosmic Cat, Alley Cat, Courageous Cat and Kitty Kat. From there, the man born Kevin Gilliam would make the transition into becoming one of the most in-demand producers in Hip-Hop. He's a mainstay of the classic West Coast sound, having done amazing work with legends like Snoop Dogg, E-40, Kam and W.C.
He's worked with East Coast emcees like Dana Dane and Talib Kweli. He's produced R&B tracks for stars like Deborah Cox, Faith Evans, Joi and Kenny Lattimore. So please don't attempt to put the Battlecat in a box.
He's one of the most prolific producers on ANY coast, but there's no denying Battlecat's footprint is all over the West. He's worked with so many icons and crossed so many genres; everyone from Madonna to Brian McKnight has called on the legend from South Central.
