Tyler, The Creator on Missy Elliott: "Go Study Her Albums"

Missy went on Instagram and shared some insight behind a couple of her albums — her acclaimed 1997 debut Supa Dupa Fly and her 2003 project, This Is Not a Test! — she said she and Timbaland created her debut in a mere two weeks. Grammy winner Tyler, The Creator, whose avant-garde music has been praised for its depth and innovativeness, caught wind of Missy's comments and had some instructions for his younger fans.

“To my younger fans, go study all her albums,” he said, pointing specifically to "Hot Boyz," "Lick Shots," and "Gossip Folks."

Earlier this year, Missy talked about the making of Under Construction, and how important it was to believe in her own vision.

“I’ll never forget when I did “Lose Control”, [the label] told me it was never gonna play. Because it was too fast, right?,” she said. “The popular music tempos were changing at the time. And I was like, “man, I don’t care. I’m gonna try.” I always say I’d rather it don’t work out, but I believed in it. As opposed to you doing something somebody else felt like you should do, and then it don’t work out. Because then you’re just kicking yourself. You have to stay true to yourself.”
