The Nappy Roots dropped their new single, 'Play Clothes" today (5/10). The 808 Blake produced track is a homage to those who came up in the 70's and 80's, with its descriptions of simpler times. The hook is one that everyone from the "playing outside" generation can relate to. "Hop scotch, jump rope, drinkin' out the water hose, dirt stains, ripped jeans, mama called 'em play clothes, tag if you say so but never really stay froze, time flies grown' old imagine how the day goes."
“We wouldn’t be Nappy Roots without our upbringings in Kentucky and Georgia,” said Skinny DeVille, founding member of Nappy Roots. “Playing outside until street lights come on, hooping in the park with our friends, having dinner with our immediate and extended families, watching Scooby Doo with our cousins…these are memories that have shaped us and the generation we grew up in. We wanted to reflect that in our music.”
