Talib Kweli is suing the website Jezebel for $300,000 due to a 2020 article that the site published about him, which he claims has caused him emotional distress.

The article in question was titled “Talib Kweli’s Harassment Campaign Shows How Unprotected Black Women Are Online and Off.” The piece detailed the Black Star MC's online interactions with Maya Moody, a then 24-year-old student and activist. Twitter deemed the interactions against their policies and instituted a permanent ban of Kweli from the platform.

The lawsuit was filed on Thursday in New York Supreme Court against Jezebel's parent company G/O Media and the author of the piece, Ashley Reese. The suit stated the the piece resulted in a “negligent infliction of emotional distress,” one so deep that he “went into a depression state of loss of appetite, sleeplessness, edgy, anxiety, and discomfort around certain women.”

Kweli denies harassing anyone and insists that Jezebel used him as a guinea pig to illustrate how Black men mistreat Black women. Mya Moody claims that she is still being harassed by followers of the rapper.

"He has continued to mention me in interviews, live appearances, etc for over a year and a half," she claims in a Twitter post.

Kweli claims that the article turned "a minor conflict into a grand parade" that costed him over $300,000 in lost income over the last two years.
