A judge declared a mistrial Wednesday, June 22 in a wrongful death suit brought against Suge Knight by relatives of a man who was run over and killed by the Death Row founder in 2015.

Jurors were deadlocked 7-5 in favor of finding him liable, according to CBS. Knight is currently serving 28 years in prison after pleading no contest in September 2018 to voluntary manslaughter for killing 55-year-old Terry Carter following an argument during a shoot for the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton back in 2015. Surveillance video also showed Knight striking and seriously injuring Cle "Bone" Sloan during the confrontation.

The former rap mogul was originally charged with murder but the charge was lowered to voluntary manslaughter in 2018 as part of a plea deal. Earlier this month, Knight testified about the "Murder Burger" incident in a remote appearance, ultimately claiming that he "feared for his life,” and that he acted in self-defense when he accelerated toward Carter and Sloan, hitting them both.

Lawyers for Carter's widow and daughters previously argued Knight should pay $81 million.
