Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight’s former attorney Matthew Fletcher pleaded guilty to conspiracy and perjury charges on Wednesday (2/16), and will be barred from practicing law for the rest of his life. These events stem from Fletcher being accused by prosecutors of plotting to bribe witnesses so that they would lie for Knight when he faced murder charges in 2016.

Originally the 57-year-old former attorney was accused of conspiracy to suborn perjury, obstruct justice and bribe witnesses in the wake of a warrant being obtained to listen in on jailhouse conversations between Knight and Fletcher in 2015. Fletcher was also charged as an accessory after the fact in Knights case and faced with an unrelated count of bribery due to testimony that he gave at a disciplinary hearing before the State Bar of California in 2016.

After a two-month trial, jurors began this week weighing the charges against Fletcher, but a plea deal came together on Wednesday before a verdict could be reached according to Alexandra Kazarian, Fletchers co-counsel. As a result of pleading guilty to all charges Fletcher will be placed on probation for 5 years, and must resign within 90 days. Failure to resign within 90 days could result in jail time for the former attorney.

Death Row Records which was founded by Suge Knight was sold to Hasbro corporation in 2019 for $4 billion. It was then sold to MNRK music group who sold it to Snoop Dogg last week (2/9). Snoop, one of Death Row’s original artists purchased it for an undisclosed amount.
