Suge Knight on the Upcoming Death Row Docuseries: 'Death Row Was a Violent Workplace'

Death Row Records co-founder and ex CEO Suge Knight talked to TMZ about an upcoming Death Row docuseries from California state penitentiary where he is serving a 28 year sentence for voluntary manslaughter.

According to Suge, he will narrate the 10 season series on BLK Prime which will chronicle his life before, during and after launching the legendary label which was once home to 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. When asked about the alleged violent environment at Death Row, Suge attributed the hostility at the label to his upbringing.

"I grew up with 10 uncles," he explained. "They all played football and I started playing organized football at five years old - they put my age as seven. Everything I dealt with I treated like it was a sport. You had to be tough and disciplined and that's where I got it from. I purposely made it competitive, if you got a good verse somebody else has a better one. It is true that stuff was aggressive at Death Row."

Knight says that 2Pac and Snoop Dogg understood the aggressive fashion in which he ran the label more than anyone else.

"Pac understood it more than anybody in the world, but you can't take anything from Snoop either," Suge said. "Snoop would travel with me to New York to promote Death Row faster than anyone and with Pac was on a level where it wasn't just about no gang shit. He was about our people. I mean our people who are trying to do better and get better."

As for the docuseries, Suge says that the first seasons will focus on 2Pac's time at the label, Biggie's place in the Death Row/Bad Boy beef and Knight's once friendship turned rivalry with Diddy. The remaining seasons will cover Eazy-E, east and west tensions, crips and bloods and Suge's trial and conviction.

Filming for the series is planned for this summer and will stream exclusively on BLK Prime in the fall.
