Snoop Dogg went off script in a recent conversation with Larry Jackson, former Apple Music director at Milken Institute. Jackson said that it was an "exciting time for Hip-Hop" due to its popularity on streaming platforms. Snoop responded that streaming platforms need to clarify how they calculate payment to artists.
"Streaming needs to get their shit together," the "Murder Was The Case" rapper said. "I don't understand how you get paid off that shit. Can somebody explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? I don't know who the f--k runnin' the streaming industry if you're in here or not. You need to give us some information about how to track this money down."
Snoop remembered that in the days before streaming when artists sold a physical product the payment process was more transparent. "One plus one ain't addin' up to two," he said. When I first came out my records would sell based off physical. If I sell how many streams how much money do I get? It's not being translated."
