Rolling Stone just ranked the Top 50 Greatest Concept albums, and Hip-Hop was represented three times within the list that also included albums by Marvin Gaye, Parliament, Frank Sinatra, Rush and The Who.

At #49 was 2011's Undun by the Roots which Rolling Stone describes as "the life story of a drug dealer told from death to birth" and "a Blaxploitation soundtrack for the modern era with some of The Roots most killer blends of Hip-Hop, R&B and live beats."

In fourth place was Raekwon's 1995 critically acclaimed debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. The album is described as the story of "Two young hustlers on the streets of New York who decide to give up the criminal life- right after this one, last big score." The album is also compared to a "Hip-Hop Good Fellas."

In first place was Compton wonder Kendrick Lamar's 2012 release, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. The album is described as the story of "Lamar coming of age in Compton, encountering the city's many pleasures as well its ever-present threat of gang conflict and police violence and a coming of age opus." The highly awarded Lamar recently won big at the 2022 BET Awards, grabbing awards in six categories including album and artist of the year for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
