Rock The Bells proudly commemorates 50 years of Hip-Hop, a genre that has played a pivotal role in advancing Black and Brown empowerment. Presented in partnership with Walmart, this landmark festival pays homage to the genre's humble beginnings on the streets of New York City, and its subsequent rise to global prominence, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities along the way.

As the incredible milestone is celebrated, Rock The Bells stands as a testament to the resilience and innovation of Hip-Hop. Walmart's collaboration with the festival underscores the company's commitment to supporting these communities and their creative pursuits. More than just a celebration of music, Rock The Bells is a powerful tribute to the profound impact that Hip-Hop has had on cultural pride, artistic expression and self-empowerment.

“Walmart is thrilled to sponsor Rock the Bells and celebrate this monumental milestone of Hip-Hop’s 50-year rise to prominence,” said Allison Rand, Director of Brand Experiences and Partnerships at Walmart. “Hip-Hop has helped shape American culture and communities across the U.S., paving the way for new forms of artistic expression. Walmart shares in this commitment to supporting the unrelenting vision and creativity of the Black community by extending a platform to Black artists, entrepreneurs and makers of all kinds."

Of course, Hip-Hop's influence extends far beyond its status as an innovative and game-changing genre. From its inception, Hip-Hop has served as a platform that amplifies the voices of the disenfranchised, offering a powerful means of expression and a vehicle for storytelling. The genre's artists have fearlessly painted vivid pictures of the realities often overlooked or unacknowledged, using their lyrics to shed light on the lived experiences of Black and Brown individuals, as marked by the 1982 hit, "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. The track marked the beginning of a new era in Hip-Hop, one that exemplified Hip-Hop's early embodiment of social commentary and its ability to spark essential dialogues and heighten societal awareness.

Hip-Hop has also become an economic powerhouse, providing opportunities for wealth creation within Black and Brown communities. The industry has witnessed the rise of Hip-Hop-owned labels, as well as the establishment of a wide range of businesses and creative partnerships by visionary artists such as E-40, Styles P, Jadakiss, and Roxanne Shanté. Through their entrepreneurial endeavors, these artists, producers, fashion influencers, and entrepreneurs have leveraged their creative talents to build lucrative careers, ultimately empowering their communities at large.

The global reach of Hip-Hop can’t be understated. It reverberates across continents, ensuring that the stories, struggles, and triumphs of Black and Brown communities are told on the world stage. Simply put, the genre has transcended cultural and geographic boundaries, becoming a universal language that fosters understanding and unity.  It serves as a platform for self-expression, an engine for economic progress, and an advocate for meaningful societal change—all underscored by a raw, authentic, and revolutionary soundtrack.
