Rapsody has dropped a new single, "On The Come Up" from the upcoming Sanaa Lathan-directed film of the same name. The track, produced by Grammy-winning producers 1500 or Nothin', also features the film's star, Jamila C. Gray, as well as Lady London.

Rapsody worked extensively on the film, which is based on the bestselling YA novel by Angie Thomas, coaching the movie's main character Bri (Jamila C. Gray), a 16-year-old burgeoning rap star who's trying to navigate life's pitfalls and love, all while coming to terms with who she is. Rapsody also wrote music for the film, along with 1500 or Nothin'.

In an interview with Vibe earlier this year, Rapsody said working on the film was an "amazing experience" that she hopes to be able to repeat.

“It was something that I want to do a lot more,” Rapsody, who recently teamed up with DJ Premier and Remy Ma for the track "Remy Rap," said. “I love film and to tie film and music together when I have the opportunity. I definitely was excited when they brought me on board, but it was dope. Sanaa opened the door and she allowed me to learn a lot about filmmaking, the process, and she trusted my ear. We worked well together along with Larrance Dopson in just creating something dope, musically.”

On The Come Up also stars Method Man, Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Lil Yachty and arrives Sept. 23. The single "On The Come Up" is available to stream now.
