The Grio Awards took place on Nov. 26, and in a special performance, Queen Latifah teamed up with legendary singers Fantasia, Patti Labelle, Yolanda Adams, and Jennifer Hudson to deliver a dynamic performance of Karyn White's classic "Super Woman."
While in this case, she was content to let the legendary vocalists do the heavy lifting, Latifah has been showcasing her vocal range since her debut. She continued to showcase her skills throughout her career, including on her jazz album The Dana Owens album and on Trav'lin' Light. The Equalizer star is one of the most versatile entertainers in the business and recently spoke about diversifying her interests early on.
"When my career first started as a rapper, I thought to myself ‘if I’m not the best rapper, period, there’s no way I’m gonna put all my eggs in one basket,’” she told CNBC Make It. “I have to do some other things and have to explore other avenues.”
She said that not pushing for her dreams was never an option. "I’ve never felt barriers or ceilings," she said. "I just wasn’t raised that way. It was just ‘if you can do it, go for it.’”
