"NAPPY4LIFE is the soundtrack to our lives over the years," Skinny Deville said of the album. "From growing up in country Kentucky and Georgia to starting Nappy Roots at college to where we are now - 25 years of making music. We don't plan to stop and we're proud of this album. We hope NAPPY4LIFE can be the soundtrack to our fans lives too."
Widely known across the city for their philanthropic efforts, including mentorship programs, support of local nonprofits, and creation of community events, mostly through their brewery, Atlantucky, last year, Nappy Roots were honored with their own day in Atlanta. Veterans in Hip-Hop, in 1998, Nappy Roots burst onto the rap scene with their independent debut, Country Fried Cess, after connecting at Western Kentucky University. Shortly after the release of their indie debut, Atlantic Records signed them and they released their major-label platinum debut, Watermelon, Chicken, and Gritz, in 2002, driven by the infectious, country-infused hits, “Aw Naw” and “Po Folks.” They followed it up with one more album released on Atlantic, Wooden Leather, in 2003, before breaking from the label and going indie. Their latest full-length offering, 40rty, dropped September 2020.
