Hip-Hop veterans Nappy Roots are back with a new album, NAPPY4LIFE, a project they say is one of their most personal to date.

Among the features on the 10-track project is Dungeon Family's Backbone on "Rise & Grind" along with newcomers like Blanco Brown on "End of the Night Song." The album is led by the single "Hands of Time" featuring Shaun Rose and produced by veteran producer 808 Blake. The mid-tempo track is anchored by a prominent sample of Soul II Soul's "Keep On Moving," features a video directed by Mullah Mugzie.

"Life can be a test/Got smile nonetheless/Somehow you climb from the depths/And you keep on moving/Smile in they face/This a marathon race/Started slow but you placed/Now you moving at your pace," Fishscales rhymes on the second verse.

"NAPPY4LIFE is the soundtrack to our lives over the years," Skinny Deville said of the album. "From growing up in country Kentucky and Georgia to starting Nappy Roots at college to where we are now - 25 years of making music. We don't plan to stop and we're proud of this album. We hope NAPPY4LIFE can be the soundtrack to our fans lives too."

Widely known across the city for their philanthropic efforts, including mentorship programs, support of local nonprofits, and creation of community events, mostly through their brewery, Atlantucky, last year, Nappy Roots were honored with their own day in Atlanta. Veterans in Hip-Hop, in 1998, Nappy Roots burst onto the rap scene with their independent debut, Country Fried Cess, after connecting at Western Kentucky University. Shortly after the release of their indie debut, Atlantic Records signed them and they released their major-label platinum debut, Watermelon, Chicken, and Gritz, in 2002, driven by the infectious, country-infused hits, “Aw Naw” and “Po Folks.” They followed it up with one more album released on Atlantic, Wooden Leather, in 2003, before breaking from the label and going indie. Their latest full-length offering, 40rty, dropped September 2020.
