Hip-Hop legend Missy Elliott recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of "Missy Elliott Day" in her hometown of Portsmouth, VA by giving back. The Virginian Pilot reports that on Tuesday (Oct. 17), she returned home to donate $50,000 to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Executive director of PRHA Alisa Winston said the money will pay the past-due rents of 26 families. 

“Instead of it being a celebration of Missy Elliott, you know about me, I wanted to give back and let that be the celebration of Missy Elliott, just to show that I love everybody out here," Missy said during the short ceremony.

Missy has been on a roll as of late, receiving her much-due recognition for her artistry, including becoming the first female Hip-Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The inductions will be aired live for the first time, and will also feature the induction of the legendary DJ Kool Herc.

In years past, an edited version of the induction ceremony would air weeks later on HBO but this year's ceremony will be streamed on Disney+ with the edited version airing on ABC early next year. The ceremony takes place on Nov. 3 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and will be streamed on Disney+ at 8 p.m. EST.
