During a performance at Stubbs for SPIN's SXSW showcase Mike performed a track, “Shed Tears,” which according to the publication, “made good use of the gospel backing vocals atop a deep bass-and-drum groove.” He also debuted "High + Holy,” a tribute to his wife, Shay, who's regularly mentioned as an inspiration and muse in his music.
Last year, Mike released two singles, "RUN" featuring Dave Chappelle and "Talk'n That Shit," produced by Memphis vet DJ Paul, which could potentially end up on the album. Michael will be Mike's first solo project since 2012's stellar R.A.P. Music, which was produced by El-P and kickstarted their incredible Run The Jewels partnership, producing a nearly flawless four-album run. RTJ fans also have reason to celebrate. Last year, in an interview with Consequence, Mike hinted that RTJ 5 could be on the way as well. “I say this with a smile and a wink — me and El-P were in the studio together. We may have messed around and started Run the Jewels 5, so we’ll see what happens.”
Mike recently appeared on the track with T.I., Yung Booke, and Skooly, "The Real A."
