On its 40th anniversary, Dr. Dre and a slew of other stars saluted legendary L.A. radio station, KDAY (now known as KBLA), listing the numerous ways the station elevated and in some cases, kickstarted their careers.

“I have so many reasons to thank KDAY, but I’ll just give you a couple of them right now,” Dre said. “KDAY was the first station that gave me an opportunity when I was a young and up-and-coming DJ. They gave me my own radio show, which was called The Traffic Jam, and I showed up every weekday at 5 o’clock, and every artist out there knows what this is like … the first time you hear your shit on the radio — the feeling is amazing. Not only that, KDAY was the first station to play the first song I ever produced on my own, which was ‘Boyz-N-The-Hood,’ so I can’t thank them enough. So I’d like to say happy 40th anniversary, KDAY, and I really, really appreciate this honor. You’re a part of my history, a part of my legacy and you’re the springboard to what I’ve become today. Thank you!”

Xzibit recently celebrated KDAY's 40th anniversary by sharing a post honoring the station. Other celebrities like Busta Rhymes, Daz Dillinger, Rodney-O, Ice Cube, Ashanti, Terrell Owens, and Tiffany Haddish joined in to pay tribute.

Greg Mack, the legendary program director and radio personality, reminisced in a Rock The Bells interview about KDAY's journey from an AM station to a pioneering Hip-Hop broadcaster. He created the “traffic jam” time slot, with Dr. Dre and Yella as its initial DJs, and had mixmasters like Tony G, Joe Cooley, and Jammin’ Gemini.

KDAY was instrumental in introducing New York-based rap to its audience. Ice Cube shared with LL COOL J in a Rock The Bells interview how he first heard LL's "I Need A Beat" on KDAY, lying in his bedroom, highlighting the station's iconic influence.
