Jermaine Dupri presented legendary R&B group Xscape with the Lady of Soul Award at the Soul Train Music Awards, which aired this Saturday (Nov. 26) on BET.

Xscape (Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, LaTocha Scott and Tamika Scott) was the first act JD signed to his So So Def label in the early 90s. JD recalled the first time he heard them sing at his birthday party.

"It blew me away when they sang ‘Happy Birthday,’” he recalled. “I said, I’m going to sign you … but I had no record label.” When he did launch his So So Def label, they were the first act he signed. "People didn’t have belief; thought I was crazy,” Dupri said. “But 30 years later, we’re here.”

Xscape also ran through a medley of their hits including“Just Kickin’ It” with Dupri, “My Little Secret,” “Who Can I Run To?,” ”Tonight” and “Understanding."

Catch an encore broadcasts of the Soul Train Awards 2022 on Thursday (Dec. 1) at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BET.
