According to Hip Hop Wired, ' Am Legend 2, the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster starring Will Smith, is going into development.

Michael B. Jordan will join Smith as the film's co-star. According to Variety, the new version will follow the alternate ending found on the two-disc special edition DVD release of I Am Legend – which is the version that more closely follows the book written by Robert Matheson in 1954. Smith's character Robert Neville was the last man alive in a world of vampires in Matheson's novel, but screenwriter Avika Goldsman altered the plot for the film which replaced the vampires with mutated humans.

Goldsman revealed that the sequel will follow the ending of Matheson's novel and the alternate version of the DVD release where Smith's character survives.

“We trace back to the original Matheson book, and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film,” he explained. “What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s a really interesting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”
