Today (Aug. 4), four officers have been arrested and charged over fatal killing of Breonna Taylor in 2020, the BBC reports. Taylor was killed in her Louisville home by plainclothes police officers who were executing a "no knock" search warrant after midnight. The 26-year-old was shot multiple times, and her death sparked continued protests around the country, as her killing became a rallying cry against "no knock" warrants and for the protection of Black women. #SayHerName became a call for those seeking justice for her murder.

Previously, only one officer had been charged in the case, former Louisville detective Brett Hankinson, who was acquitted by a jury earlier this year, despite firing 10 shots during the incident. Now, he's among four people to face new charges through the US Department of Justice, including former officer Joshua Jaynes, and current officers Kelly Hanna Goodlett and Kyle Meany.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced new charges for four police officers in the high-profile murder case of Breonna Taylor. The officers are being charged with civil rights offenses, unlawful conspiracy, unconstitutional use of force and obstruction. Three of the officers were charged with falsification of a search warrant.

Back in 2020, Cardi B called on male rappers to speak out about Taylor's death. "A woman like Breonna Taylor, she was young,” she told Elle. “She looked like she was listening to your music. She looked like she was your fan. You should stick up for her.”

Rappers, including Common, Ice-T, and Questlove have previously been vocal about wanting justice for Taylor.
