Fat Joe Was Not Pleased About Irv Gotti and Ja Rule "Disrespecting" Ashanti, Ja Rule Responds

Fat Joe, like a lot of folks who watched, had thoughts about Irv Gotti and Ja Rule's recent Drink Champs interview.

Irv, in particular, was feeling especially chatty, and claimed to the world that he and Ashanti, who was signed to his Murder Inc. label in the early aughts, had a fling about 20 years ago (rumors had long circulated about the alleged tryst though Ashanti has not spoken publicly about it). He detailed his jealousy over finding out that she'd began dating Nelly, and in a very classy move, insisted Ashanti wrote her 2002 song "Happy" after they'd slept together.

Fat Joe, who worked with Ashanti on 2002’s “What’s Luv?" was not pleased.

“Whatever Irv has with Ashanti is 20 years old,” he said. “I know he was making some points that mean a lot to him, his heart and soul, but when you keep ranting about somebody 20 years later, it felt like he’s not over the young lady. Also, we didn’t know that they was fucking. ‘Cause the whole time, I’m there! ‘What’s Luv,’ Big Pun record, on tour — I never seen them together like that. Now I’m not saying they wasn’t; they was, or there was rumors they was. I never seen it. But I don’t need to know!”

Joe said that while Gotti is a "genius," perhaps he should've kept quiet about this.

“He signed DMX, he signed Jay-Z, he signed Ja," Joe said. "The man’s a genius, there’s no question. But he makes himself look crazy disrespecting her and the woman never really disrespected him. All this shit he’s talking and all that, I’m looking like, ‘Damn, bro.'”

He then turned his attention to Ja Rule.

“It’s OK if it’s on a documentary — you gotta say your truth in your documentary — but to go to Drink Champs and keep calling her a bitch, keep disrespecting — I’m not the guy to stand up for Ashanti. Ja Rule was standing right next to him,” Joe said.

Just today (Aug.9), Ja Rule responded in the comments section of Hollywood Unlocked, suggesting that Joe's accusations were cap and he should've watched the entire interview before offering an opinion, because he actually did defend Ashanti.

“STOP saying I didn’t defend sis and all women when I clearly told Gotti stop calling Ashanti/women the B word same way I told Joe at Verzuz watch the interview before you talk sh*t… NOW LEAVE ME TF OUT THESE GROWN FOLK BUSINESSES…" he wrote, capping his response with a love emoji.

Ashanti, who is currently on tour, has not yet responded to the back-and-forth.
