Fat Joe Speaks On Unreleased Album With The Notorious B.I.G.

Fat Joe was a guest recently on the Renaissance Man podcast with Jalen Rose, where he nonchalantly dropped a bomb: the Bronx superstar apparently has an unreleased album with The Notorious B.I.G.

“You know, I made an album with Biggie Smalls?” the "Lean Back" MC asked. “Biggie was like ‘You’re gonna be the Spanish Don, I’m gonna be the Black Don’. It was the time of the East-West battles and we were dissing people and all that.”

Joe says that Puffy buried the song in fear of backlash due to the bi-coastal conflict. “It was supposed to be an album: Biggie, Fat Joe, and then Tupac died and it was like ‘Yo man, get rid of that shit’’, Joe recalled.

Though the album was never released, the fact that it was part of Joe's resume gave him leverage with record labels. "Atlantic Records heard that I did an album with B.I.G. and they infiltrated", said Joe. "They offered me my own imprint and a giant deal, so I went to Puff." Puff had doubts about the contract but after looking it over, he encouraged Joe to sign. "Look playboy, go get that. I'm not providing that," Joe said Puff told him.

Fat Joe announced recently that he will soon publish his memoirs through Roc Lit 101, the publishing arm of Roc Nation. The Book of Jose will chronicle Joe's transformation from a kid in the South Bronx to one of Hip-Hop's biggest icons. According to a press release, the book will “pull back the curtain on Joe’s challenging upbringing and give readers a look into his ascent to stardom, while candidly reckoning with the costs and rewards of that life: its tragedies, regrets, and glittering triumphs." The Book of Jose has an expected release date of November 1st.
