Eminem has just dropped his new single featuring CeeLo Green, "The King and I," featured on the soundtrack from Baz Luhrmann's much-buzzed-about upcoming film, Elvis. Produced by Dr. Dre and Eminem, the track samples Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock," as Em rhymes: "Money like a scroll bitch, my paper long/Longer than it takes a blonde to put her make-up on/'Cause me and Elvis gelled together like cellmates."
Of course, this isn't the first time Em has made an Elvis reference — back in 2002 on "Without Me" he sarcastically rapped, "Though I'm not the first king of controversy / I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley to do Black music so selfishly / And use it to get myself wealthy." The rapper's new track follows the lead single from the soundtrack, Doja Cat's "Vegas," which was released in May.
Em's feature on the anticipated film's soundtrack comes on the heels of a relatively busy year for the rapper, which kicked off with a celebrated performance during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige. Since then, he's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, released a 20th-anniversary edition of The Eminem Show, and appears in the anticipated Erykah Badu-executive produced documentary, The D.O.C., about the legendary rapper's storied career.
The Elvis Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is due out on June 24, and the film, which stars Austin Butler as Elvis and Tom Hanks as Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker, will hit theaters the same day. Listen to "The King and I" below.
